Officers from the Vetting and Criminal Analysis (VCA) Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters have arrested three persons for defrauding a Hong Kong national by name Chin Yuen Jacob.

The three are Kingsley Chukwudi Isaiah, also known as Francis Atta, Emmanuel Ifeanyi Nwaike and Joseph Owoo, while a fourth accomplice, George Boateng, is on the run.

Under the pretext of helping their victim transfer money from Nigeria into the country, the three, together with their accomplice, ended up defrauding him of various amounts of money and valuables.

The Director of VCA, Chief Superintendent Denis Abade, noted that somewhere in March this year, Chukwudi sent an e-massage to his victim, convincing him (victim) that he was capable of aiding him transfer an amount of $5,000,000.00 (five million dollars) from Nigeria to Ghana.

The complainant therefore travelled to Ghana, where he met Chukwudi, who posed as a Ghanaian by name Francis Atta.

Chukwudi succeeded in taking two laptops from his victim, which he said he would use to facilitate the said transfer.

Another accomplice who posed as a lawyer by name George Boateng also took $500 with the excuse of using the sum to secure a parcel containing some pound sterling and dollar notes.

However, the said parcel was never delivered after he parted with the money, thereby raising suspicion about him and Chukwudi.

On Thursday, September 29, 2011, the three were arrested in a police operation when they showed up at their victim’s hotel to take more money.

Currently, the police have established that Chukwudi had posed as a chairman of a contract committee while Ifeanyi acted as a bank official who would help in the transfer of the $5,000,000.00 from Nigeria to Ghana.

Meanwhile, the police are making frantic efforts to arrest George Boateng, who is currently at large.

Chief Supt. Abade appealed to all persons who might have come in contact with the runaway suspect or know of his whereabouts to volunteer information to the police.

Chukwudi and his accomplices are currently resting at the CID Headquarters cells while investigations continue into the matter.
