A Tarkwa circuit court has fined Bismark Essuah, a 24-year-old labourer, GHc120 for stealing gold worth GHc32.
He pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on April 10, around 07:00 hours, Bismarck, a staff of the AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem mine, reported for duty at the company's plant site to weed around the premises.
During lunch break the accused was searched with a scanner machine which emitted an alarm continuously indicating that there was a ferrous matter on him.
Inspector Amponsah said Bismarck then dipped his hand in to his pocket and brought out a small polythene bag which was found to contain gold ore. He said the accused was arrested together and handed over to the police.
When the exhibit was sent to the S.G.S laboratory it was detected that the gold ore contained 0.58 grams of gold.
