A 32-year old laboratory Technician, Prosper Felli, has been remanded into prison custody by an Accra Community Magistrate Court, for producing Fake HIV report for a 26-year-old unemployed woman.

He was remanded in custody by the court, presided over by Mr. Ali Baba, until December 27. Felli was charged for defrauding the complainant of an amount of GH¢400. He produced a fake report indicating that she had proved positive, and asked her to pay the amount so that he could change it to negative to enable her to secure employment with a company in Accra.

Presenting the facts of the case to the court, the prosecutor, Mr. Twumasi Ankrah said the complainant (name withheld) applied for employment with a company and as part of the requirement, she was requested to take an HIV/AIDS test. The complainant and four others were directed to the Odawna Clinic for the test to be conducted. Mr. Ankrah said the accused conducted the test and asked them to wait for the results.

After some time, the complainant went to the laboratory and Felli told her that another test would have to be conducted on her because the first result was doubtful and she obliged. The prosecutor said after the second test, Felli told her that the result showed that she was HIV positive, but he could swap the result to read negative for a fee of GH¢400. That, he said, would enable her secure the job.

The prosecutor said the accused later gave the complainant his cell phone number to call him when she was ready with the money. But the complainant, being suspicious submitted herself to another test at the Advance Diagnostic Centre at Adenta, which test proved negative. The complainant then reported the matter to the AMA Public Health Department responsible for all the clinics and metropolis. “After the report, the complainant called the accused to come for the money and when he made it to the appointed place, he was arrested by the police,” the prosecutor said. He prayed to the court to remand the accused in prison custody pending further investigations.
