With the view of empowering people with disability to take hold of their future, the Ketu South District Assembly in the Volta Region has disbursed about GHs 60,000 to persons living with disability.
They include those who had ventured in farming, petty trading as well as other income generating jobs.
Few months ago about 200 disabled persons received about GHs 40,000 and just about a week ago, the remaining GHs 20,000 was disbursed to about 100 beneficiaries.
The gesture was in line with the Disability Act which mandates district assemblies to allocate 2% of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) to persons living with disability in the districts.
Ketu South District Chief Executive, Bernard Frank Amarble who confirmed this in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com indicated that the aim of the fund was to support the disabled to venture in income generating jobs of their choice in order to fend for themselves and their families.
This was to make begging a less lucrative venture for them, he intimated.
