Sometimes work is chaotic and downright overwhelming. It's those times when you need to step back a bit, breathe and refocus. Follow these tips to find some happiness and serenity at work.

Take breaks
Every person needs a break now and then. Taking breaks at work can give you a few moments of peace. Plus, breaks allow you to refocus and get your mind back on track so when you get back to work, you'll be more productive.

Close your door
If you have your own office, take advantage of the fact that you have a door. Next time you are feeling overwhelmed by others around you, just close your door. Having your own uninterrupted space will allow you to gather your thoughts and find peace of mind.

Turn up the music
If you have a job where you can listen to music, do it. Music is a great way to escape and find some serenity. Whether you need to calm down or get pumped up, your music selection can help you. Bring headphones to work and listen to your favorite song on your break -- it will only take five minutes.

Stop multitasking
Being a good multitasker can be a fantastic asset at work. However, if you have gotten to the point that your mind is jumbled, you miss deadlines and you are constantly feeling pressured, then it's time to slow down. Instead of multitasking, unitask. Focus solely on one task at a time until it's completed, and then move to the next. Unitasking allows you to get organized, complete your work and declutter your mind.

Turn around
How long have you been staring at your computer screen? Hours? Whenever you are feeling overwhelmed or burned out, simple turn your chair around for five minutes and stop looking at your computer screen. Though we need all our electronics and gadgets, they shouldn't be the only thing we look at all day long.

Get outdoors
One of the best things you can do for yourself to find serenity is to get outside. Instead of ordering in lunch, get outside on your lunch hour. You'll get some fresh air, sunshine, exercise and a much needed change of scenery.
