The Road Safety Management Services Gh. Ltd (RSMSL) has successful trained 250 youth in Kumasi as Road Safety Management Task Force (RSMTF), a specialized unit instituted by the company to provide support for the Ghana Police Service in managing road traffic and accidents on our roads.
In a colourful ceremony organized in Kumasi over the weekend, the trained personnel were inaugurated as the first batch of the new Road Safety Management Task Force which is intended to comprise of 3000 energetic youth selected across the various districts in the country to ensure safety and security on the roads.
The RSMTF personnel were provided with uniforms, boots and protective gear, various types of traffic management and road maintenance equipment to aid them in their field of work. The task force will be mandated to engage in towing services management, accident scene management, traffic control and management, enforcement of some road traffic offences that often result into avoidable road accidents and neighborhood watch services.
The event was attended by dignitaries including a delegation from the Ghana Police Service, the National Road Safety Commission with the mayor of Kumasi, Mr. Samuel Sarpong as the Special Guest of Honour.
In his address, Mr. Sarpong expressed enthusiasm over Road Safety Management Services Limited�s initiative in collaborating with the Ghana Police Service to proactively train Road Safety Task Force to support the Police halt carnage being witnessed on our roads hence, the need to sharpen the skills of recruited personnel to carry out their mandate with a professional touch of class.
He also stressed that stakeholders have endorsed a mandatory fee paying option for tow services.
It has been agreed that the most effective cost recovery arrangement in engaging the private sector was to have a mandatory levying of all vehicles. By this, every motorist would be levied an annual fee to be paid through the DVLA at the point of paying for the Road Worthy Certificate for towing certificates without additional charge.
DCOP Augustine Gyening on his part touched on General Police Special Technical Team set up by the Inspector-General of Police to oversee the deployment and supervision of the task force personnel to the various accident prone roads identified, in order to reduce the incidence of crashes under the wings of the MTTU.
Air Commodore Basin Dery, Managing Director of RSMSL stressed on the huge investment made by his company in the acquisition of state-of-the- art equipments and machinery including tow trucks, ambulances, motor bikes, patrol wagons and pick-ups, as well as various types of equipment for traffic management.
Other services of RSMSL include a rapid vehicle towing services which has seen the acquisition of 118 tow trucks of various categories from China, 38 of which have already arrived and are in operation in all the regions. 25 tow trucks and flat beds are being shipped and should arrive soon.
The remaining 55 trucks are in production and are expected to be shipped by the end of the year. Other services include the provision of large parking lots for towed disabled vehicles, provision of an emergency paramedical and ambulance services to victims of accidents which has necessitated the procurement of 15 ambulances by the company.
