Wassa Domeabra, a farming community near Wassa Juabo in the Western Region, was last Wednesday gripped with shock as a 30-year-old settler farmer, Ali Dagarti Tigbe raped his sister and inflicted cutlass wounds on her and later committed suicide in a neighbour’s room.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Sefwi Wiaso Government Hospital awaiting autopsy.
Meanwhile, the victim, an 18-year-old (name withheld) has been admitted at the same hospital and is receiving medical treatment. “She is doing well,” the Sefwi Wiaso District Police Commander, DSP Raymond K. Erzuah, told 'The Spectator' on phone here last Thursday.
Giving the background to the incident, DSP Erzuah said at about 12:30p.m on Wednesday, September 12, the Unite Committee Chairman of Wassa Domeabra, accompanied by three others, reported at the police station that Ali raped his own sister and inflicted cutlass wounds on her and escaped from the scene.
DSP Erzuah said, Ali after the act suspecting that his sister was dead went to an area about one mile away from his cottage and in the absence of another Dagarti man, entered his room and shot himself with a locally manufactured gun. “While he was being rushed to a hospital nearby, he died on the way.”
