Three police constables have been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Police Service for their role in a shootout with armed robbers at Danfa in Accra.
This follows a complaint about the killing of a suspected armed robber by the officers in Danfa.
Speaking to Citi News Director of Public Affairs at the Police Headquarters, DSP Cephas Arthur, indicated that the three policemen would aid in investigations.
“We are saying that the police at the CID headquarters are detaining three policemen for their involvement in a shootout an incident in which one person suspected to be an armed robber was shot dead” he said.
He revealed that “the incident occurred after a complainant came to the Ayi Mensah police station to lodge a complaint that while they were on their land working, certain persons suspected to be armed robbers attacked them.”
He added that upon receiving the complaint, the three policemen were dispatched to the location at Danfa.
“A shootout ensued between the police and the inmates of the 4 by 4 vehicle that was at the location which led to the death of one person” he revealed.
However, the police believes that the story should be further investigated to establish the veracity or otherwise of the allegation of policemen in the case.
