Twelve people were killed on the Tarkwa/Takoradi Highway on Monday when the vehicles they were traveling on were involved in a collision.
The accident, involving a truck and a bus, killed nine males and three females and they died on the spot.
The only survivor in the bus, Francis Santo, and the driver of the Benz truck, John Ayi Annor, sustained injuries and are on admission.
The bodies of the deceased, yet to be identified, have been deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Honu-Broni, Tarkwa Nsueam Divisional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit, told the GNA in an interview that the bus, carrying 13 passengers, was traveling from Tarkwa to Takoradi and the truck was traveling from Takoradi to Tarkwa.
The Benz truck driver realised a low-bed truck had packed in his lane and he swerved the lane of the bus resulting in the collision.
He appealed to drivers to drive carefully to ensure sanity on the road.
