Workers & Company Owners Clash

More than 200 Workers of the Super Paper Products Company Limited (SPPC), Tema and the new owners of the sold company led by its CEO Alhaji Mohammed Salifu and his workers almost turned bloody but for the swift intervention the new CEO.

The workers have threatened "any attempt by any body to take the company 's assets must pay us our redundancy package and all we are due or else, not even the strongest force can change our minds" one of the workers told peace news.

The SPPC which hitherto the only producer of paper products notably rose toilet rolls in Ghana and exported to the neighbouring countries for the few months gone out of production.

According to the workers, work had been ongoing but management few month told them while at their respective working arena that the company has been sold since no dividends were being realised.

"We were shocked to the bone marrows that clearly was a breach of labour laws, we wrote several letters to management to give us our benefits and the money they owned us including our own Providence fund but no reply was given to the union" the local union chair George Nyakotey said.

They said they were waiting only to realized that the new owners have come to chrush the equipment at the plant for scraps meanwhile they are still. Stakeholders hence the resistance.

Alhaji Mohammed Saudi in an interview said he has legitimately bought the machines and that he and his company rahamabros limited had the right to take charge. And that brought friction between his workers and the company's workers.

The CEO has said he was going to do this battle legally and that paved the way for peace at the factory at the Tema Community Nine heavy industrial area today.
Mr Eleazar Nyaunu the Tema Regional ICU has therefore called on the president H.E. John Dramani. Mahama to intervene to avert any unforeseen occurrences.
