Sixteen persons died on the spot when an articulated truck , loaded with empty Coca Cola bottles crashed into a Toyota Hiace near Akatakyiwa junction between Biriwa and Yamoransa in the Central Region on Saturday night at about 1900hours.
Bodies of the victims, made up of eight males and eight females including both drivers have been deposited at the Central Regional Hospital morgue, while the only survivor, the mate of the articulated truck, who was not injured is said to be in a stable condition at the same hospital.
An eye witness told the Ghana News Agency that the Toyota Hiace driver attempted to overtake the truck.
The Central Regional Police Commander (DCOP) Ransford Moses Ninson, who confirmed the accident in a telephone interview said the truck with registration number GT975-11 was heading to Accra from Takoradi, while the Toyota Hiace with registration number GS 4513-12 with 14 passengers was from Accra to Cape Coast when the unfortunate incident occurred.
