A Circuit Court at Bekwai has handed down a 20-year prison term to a ‘wicked’ sex attacker for his violent sexual assault on a 15-year-old girl.

Kwame Takyi, 27, from Krom-Adwafo, suburb of Yaase near Kuntanase in the Bosomtwe District, raped the student of Jacobu SDA Junior High School after using an extension cord to tie her hands behind her.

He was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to the charge of defilement in what the judge, Daniel Kwaku Obeng, described as a ‘wicked’ and ‘barbaric’ attack.

Police prosecutor, Detective Sergeant Stephen Ofori, told the court that on September 17, 2013, at about 8pm, while the under-aged student was watching television, Kwame Takyi, a mason, told the victim that he had been instructed to call her.

Sgt. Ofori said the convict told the 15-year-old girl that her step-mum was waiting for her at the house of one Naana, who is said to be a friend of her step-mother.

Without suspecting any foul play, the victim set off to meet the step-mother at Naana’s house, which was close to that of the convict, he narrated further.

Prosecution stated that Takyi, who was up to mischief, trailed the victim and managed to lure her into his house, where he tied the hands behind her and violently had sexual intercourse with her.

Sgt. Ofori disclosed that a brother of the convict, who heard the girl screaming, rushed to the location, where Kwame Takyi was violently having sex with the minor.

The victim’s brother caned Takyi to disengage him (Takyi) from the victim, who was bleeding profusely from her vagina, prosecution noted.

He stated further that the victim became unconscious and Takyi fled to unknown place.

A Good Samaritan also alerted the victim’s step-mother, who with assistance from some neighbours, rushed the victim to the Kuntanase Hospital, but was referred to South Patasi Hospital for treatment.

On November 18, Kwame Takyi was arrested from his hideout and handed over to the police for investigation.

He confessed to the crime and was subsequently arraigned before court.
