The Association of Methodist Men’s Fellowships (AMMF) has marked its 30th Anniversary in Kumasi, with a call on members to endeavour to effect positive changes in the society.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu the Second, said this could be done through volunteerism, missionary work and pro-poor programmes to bring hope to the people.
Seeking the holistic growth of humanity, he said, constituted one of the cardinal principles of the Association, and that it was incumbent on the leadership to work assiduously to achieve its mission statement.
The Anniversary which coincided with the Eighth Biennial Conference of the Association, was marked on the theme “Witnessing to Christ – Teaching for Effective Christian Formation – the Role of the Men.”
The occasion was used to highlight achievements of the Association, the current state of affairs, and strategize for the future.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu, in a speech read on his behalf, urged the members to be bold in speaking against the ills in society, saying in spite of the advancement of Christianity, social vices had increased due to non-adherence to the word of God.
He challenged the Association to stay focused at all times, and strive to use the anniversary to take stock of its activities for progress.
Mr. Samuel Yaw Adusei, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, indicated that as agents of change, the state and church ought to complement the efforts of each other, particularly in the area of humanitarian services, to bring comfort to the people.
He lauded Christians for praying fervently to sustain peace, social harmony and political stability in the country.
Mr. George Omane, National Chairman of the Association, said his outfit had over the years initiated many viable projects to improve social amenities in deprived communities across the country.
This, he said, had been crucial in advancing the living conditions of the people for the better.
