Hundreds of residents in Daboya in the North Gonja District of the Northern Region have been displaced by a rainstorm that hit the area on Sunday.

The downpour that lasted for more than two hours, destroyed property worth thousands of Ghana cedis, Joy News' correspondent Hashmin Mohammed reports.

The roofs of more than 100 houses and 28 classroom blocks in five basic schools in the District- Daboya DA JHS, Marikaziya primary school, Asafo JHS, Parabiya and Salsiyat primary schools- had their roofs ripped off completely.

The torrential rains also wreak havoc to the roof of four mosques and houses of police officers and the District police station.

Electrical appliances such as refrigerators television sets, electrical poles, food stuffs and clothing of residents were also destroyed in the rainstorm.

The affected victims are living with friends, family members and relatives in the area, the report added.

District Chief Executive for North Gonja, Sekoute Yahuza, told Joy News that the assembly is overwhelmed by the extent of damage to property.

He, therefore, appealed to central government and other nongovernmental organizations to come to the aid of the displace persons.
