The Manhyia Palace of the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II, has asked the media to be circumspect in their reportage on the King and activities of the Palace as the King celebrates fifteen years of his ascension to the throne.

Nana Barima Kwaku Duah (Otumfour Osei Tutu II) ascended the Golden Stool as the 16th Asante King of the Ashanti Monarchy on April 26, 1999.

Speaking on the Ultimate Morning Show on preparations for the celebration, Secretary at the Manhyia Palace, Collins Adusie, called for media support to showcase the rich heritage of the Ashanti Kingdom. He, however, lamented the rather negative reportage given to the King with the intention to dent the image of the King and cautioned that the Palace will not take kindly to such falsehood.

“Otumfour has done several great things for the whole of Africa and even the world and as it is, I expect everyone to rally solidly behind him to offer him all the moral, spiritual and physical support. You cannot simply go to the studio or write your newspaper to air your views which may be detrimental to the whole system without recourse to Manhyia,” he cautioned.

Mr. Adusei said the Manhyia Palace was seriously considering instituting a press centre at the Palace to liaise between Manhyia and the media in building strong ties with media houses in pushing a better agenda for the region.

Relaying the King’s Easter message, he said the Asantehene was grateful to everyone for the support he has enjoyed in the last fifteen years.

“The King is very appreciative of the efforts of everybody under the sun and that he wishes all a happy Easter and wishes that God blesses us all to live to the glory of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit”.

As part of events marking fifteen years of his reign, the Palace has commenced a three month long commemoration under the theme: “rekindling the spirit of creativity, Innovation and Enterprise through Traditional leadership.” The programme started with the celebration of Akwasidae in February, but will continue till next month.

Next in the line of activities would be an Inter-denominational church service to be held at the Dwaberem at Manhyia Palace on April 26, 2014.

Other activities will be a 15th anniversary Golf Tournament and a sod cutting ceremony of the proposed Osei Tutu II University College at the old site of the Kumasi Brewery Limited, at Asokwa in Kumasi. There will also be an International Conference to deliberate on: “The role of Science and the Challenge of Creativity, Innovation and Enterprise in National Development.”

There will also be sacred rites at the Breman Royal Mausoleum and a Photo Exhibition which opens at the Manhyia Palace Gardens and Palace Museum over a one month period.
