The pregnant woman, who lost her three year old daughter and husband after their room caved in on them at Aninkruma near Barekuma in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of Ashanti Region, is appealing for support to pay her medical bills as she responds to treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Adwoa Buor, who is five months old pregnant escaped death but lost her three year old daughter, Maame Pokua and her 28 year old husband Kofi Boateng. The two were pronounced dead on arrival at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after the tragedy on Tuesday night.
A second daughter, who is two years old, was also injured but has been treated and discharged as of the time Ultimate Radio’s Nana Oye Diabene visited the Hospital on Thursday.
Earlier reports had suggested the woman had lost a leg but Ultimate Radio’s visit to the hospital revealed her leg was only in a P.O.P.
She told Nana Oye Diabene they were asleep when a part of their mud-building caved in on them, but before neighbors came to their rescue, her husband and three year old daughter died.
“We were sleeping three nights ago when the building which houses my family collapsed on us. It had started raining and my husband had asked me to switch on the light. We were four people in the room including my husband and two kids. Suddenly the building collapsed on us and my husband and one of my children couldn’t even let out a cry. They died on the spot,” she narrated her sad ordeal.
The poor female farmer now widowed and bereaved by the incident says she has no money to pay her medical bills. She lamented to Ultimate Radio that her mother died years ago and now has to depend on her grandmother who is now out and about searching for philanthropists to loan her some money to pay for the medical bills.
According to Nana Oye Diabene, the two year old second daughter who has been treated was seen playing around her mother in the ward.
The mother told Nana Oye Diabene, “we have no money and I am here with my grandmother but she is gone out to search for money to pay the bills for the P.O.P. and other things. My husband’s family is also looking at how to organize a funeral to bury my husband and my three year old child.”
