Nine people died on the spot when a tipper truck and a Hyundai Minibus crashed at Amanfoso near Nsoatre in the Brong Ahafo Region.

They were six men and three women, two of the deceased have been identified by their families and the rest deposited at the Sunyani Government Hospital.

Six other passengers in critical condition are on admission at the Berekum Holy Family Hospital.

Police Superintendent Daniel Oppong Asirifi, Brong Ahafo Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani that the police had information on the incident during the afternoon of Monday, September 29.

He said the bus with 15 passengers on board was travelling from Yametwa in the Western Region to Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region while the tipper truck belonging to J. Y. Adom Company was conveying quarry dust from Sunyani to Berekum.

Superintendent Asirifi said on reaching Amanfoso, driver of the bus realized that the driver of the truck has lost control of the steering wheel and therefore stopped to avoid any road crash.

He said the driver of the truck however collided into the bus, leading to the bus somersaulting into the bus.

Superintendent Asirif said the police are searching for the driver of the truck who took to his heels after the incident; the two vehicles have been towed to the Berekum Police Station for further investigations.
