The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is setting up a National Targeting Center to be ready by the end of 2014 which will build a National Household Register to help identify genuinely poor and vulnerable people in society to benefit from social intervention programs.
The Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Hon John Alexander Ackon dropped the hint at the launch of the Liberty House Foundation(LHF), an NGO in Accra.
According to Hon Ackon, the National Household Register will register all poorest households in the country to assist institutions and organizations with information on the needy and vulnerable in the country for such institutions and organizations to assist those people if they wish to do so.
He said the Ministry will also come out with a Child and Family Welfare system policy to help ensure that families play their roles effectively in order to strengthen the extended family system which is gradually giving way to the nuclear family system in the country. Hon Ackon commended the Liberty House Foundation(LHF) for the support it is giving to the needy and vulnerable in the country.
Rev. Luke Barson Executive Director of Liberty House Foundation said apart from helping the needy and vulnerable in society the LHF also aims at developing and maintaining the dignity of children, women, older persons and mental patients in the country.
