THE POLICE in Kumasi have apprehended two people including a 52-year-old woman, Adwoa Serwaa, in possession of quantities of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis.
The other suspect in the case, which is currently being handled by the Ashanti Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) of the Police Service, is Mamudu Yussif, who is 21 years old.
The vigilance of the management and staff of the Metro Mass Transit Limited in Kumasi helped in the arrest of the two suspects who possessed a colossal amount of the suspected cannabis at the MMT terminal at Abrepo Junction.
Quantities of the dry leaves were compressed into four big luggage, 23 compressed slabs of the leaves were put into one fertilizer sack, 57 slabs were kept in two baskets and five slabs were in a lady’s bag.
Another person believed to be an accomplice was being chased by the police to help assist in investigations, ASP Charles Appiah, Head of the Ashanti Regional DLEU, told Daily Guide.
He disclosed that the two suspects would be arraigned before court, possibly on Tuesday, adding that the third person managed to escape arrest when the incident occurred on December 6 this year.
According to him, Adwoa Serwa claimed to be a fishmonger who hails from Nsoko in the Brong-Ahafo Region, whilst Mamudu Yussif is also a native of Badu in the same region.
ASP Charles Appiah claimed that police investigations had revealed that the two arrested persons and the one at large loaded the suspected cannabis into an MMT bus at Techiman and travelled to Kumasi on December 5, 2014.
He said the suspects were trying to transport the suspected wee to Takoradi but the management of the MTT in Kumasi suspected something fishy and informed the police who arrested the suspects.
ASP Charles Appiah, who is noted for his hard work, gave the assurance that the third person who managed to escape would surely be apprehended to face the law.
