Twenty-three passengers travelling from Sunyani, the Brong Ahafo Regional capital, to Wa, Upper West Regional capital, have been robbed by unidentified Fulani men.
Driver of the Sprinter Urvan bus with registration number GW 4476-13, Ali Lamini, narrating the incident to The Finder, said he started the journey around 8pm, and upon reaching Nouri in the Northern Region, they were robbed and beaten by seven Fulani armed robbers.
When I got to Nouri, a man who was staggering crossed me so I slowed down, just then a Fulani holding a gun pointed it at me and told me to get down or he would kill me. They just rushed into the bus; one of the passengers decided to escape from the window, the robbers hit him with the butt of the gun. They smashed the side screen on my vehicle. They took all the money from us and we were beaten severely as well, Mr Lamini revealed.
According to Mr Lamini, a driver of a pickup vehicle who decided to speed off to escape from the robbers was shot in the chest and was sent to Bole by the police. He said they were robbed one hour before the police came to the scene.
Apart from this, a driver from Techiman was also shot in the thigh when he tried to escape from the robbers. He was subsequently sent to the Wenchi Methodist Hospital by the police.
Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, ACP Patrick Adusei Sarpong has admonished drivers to be vigilant to avoid such robberies.
