TWO men, who attempted outwitting the police by using a fake diplomatic number plate on a vehicle to facilitate their conveyance of maxi bags of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, from Tsibu, in the Volta Region, to Accra, have been arrested and placed in police custody.
They are Ahmed Haruna, 39, the driver and Akoto Castro, 24.
The Volta Regional Police Commander, Mr. P. Y. Gyinae, who disclosed this to The Ghanaian Times here yesterday, said the vehicle, with the number CD 182-13, was intercepted by members of the Volta Regional Police Day Patrol Team, at Frankadua at about 5 p.m. on Sunday.
He said a search on the vehicle revealed a total of 446 slabs of the substance hence their arrest.
Investigations, according to Mr. Gyinae, had so far revealed that the Pajero vehicle’s original registration number was GS 5985 Z.
The vehicle has been impounded while investigations continue.
