An Accra magistrate court is expected to deliver its ruling today on a bail application for Dr Alexander Tweneboah, former Ghana Real Estate Developers’ Association (GREDA) boss arrested with nine others for allegedly engaging in illegal SIM box operations in various locations in Accra, Tema, Koforidua and Kumasi.

This was after Fiifi Abban, lead counsel for the accused, had repeated his earlier application for bail.

Mr. Abban had at the last adjourned date argued that the rights of the accused had been violated, in view of the fact that he had been on remand for 15 days, insisting his client must be granted bail because the offence is bailable.

According to Mr. Abban, his client was prepared to cooperate with the police as they further investigate the case.

Dr. Tweneboah has denied any wrongdoing relating to the offence of providing telecommunication services without licence and possessing of illegal telecommunication devices.

The court, presided over by Worlanyo Kotoku, consequently fixed today for a decision on the bail application.

The other nine accused persons also standing trial are Ebenezer Boateng, Victor Owusu, Kwadwo Asare, Emmanuel Kofi Essilfie, Edmond Essilfie, Kwaku Appiah, Alvin Habib, Francis Abbey and David Ayitsi.

The suspects, including two foreign nationals, were arrested by a joint Anti-Telecommunication Fraud taskforce in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service last month.

Items retrieved from the suspects included thousands of different SIM cards, SIM box equipment, heavy duty batteries, SIM servers, 4G modems, printers, laptops and assorted scratch cards.
