A report by the money transfer service, WorldRemit has said that Ghanaians are the most romantic long distance lovers in the World on Valentine’s Day.

According to the global data from 2014, released ahead of this year’s Valentine’s Day, which falls on Saturday February 14,  Ghanaians on the average sent around £63 more on Valentine’s Day than on any other day of the month.

Ghanaians were closely followed by Bangladeshis and Zimbabweans who spent an average of £54 and £52.

According to the report, the amount of money transfers made on Valentine’s Day was double the February average and that romantics sending money to loved ones abroad tend to send £35 - £60 extra on average on Valentine’s Day.

Data from WorldRemit also found some countries defy gender stereotypes, with more women sending money than men on Valentine’s Day to countries such as Jamaica, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

In 2014, Valentine’s Day fell on a Friday.

The report said the sample data from WorldRemit was based on an internal analysis of 20 top remittance corridors in January 2014.

The WorldRemit’s service is available to senders in 50 countries. It offers transfers to more than 110 destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas.
