The Chief Justice has issued a directive for Circuit Courts 1, 2 , 5 , 6 , 8 and 9 in Accra and Tema, to hear only criminal cases involving remand prisoners from April 7 to May 29.
A statement from the Judicial Service signed by Mrs Grace Tagoe, the Director of Communications, said the directive is part of efforts “to curb the increasing number of Remand Prisoners” and “to help decongest the prisons.”
"The Judicial Service is therefore appealing to all Police Investigators, Prosecutors and Witnesses involved in pending criminal cases to visit the Registry of the Circuit Courts, any of the courts listed above or the Notice Board to check the dates on which their cases will be heard", the statement said.
