The National Highways police patrol team yesterday apprehended 20- year-old Prosper Gator, a passenger on board a Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus, with registration number GC 1921-11, for allegedly attempting to transport 16 parcels of compressed dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (wee) from Aflao to Accra.
Gator, who had purportedly covered the parcels with personal belongings, was nabbed at a spot near Tefle in the Volta Region during a snap check.
Briefing the media, Superintendent Alex Amenyah, Commander incharge of the National Highway Patrols, said Prosper Gator was arrested around 4:30 am yesterday.
When the bus was searched, the parcels covered with personal belongings were discovered.
Upon interrogation, Gator indicated that the bag was given to him by a friend to be sent to a man in Accra.
“He however, refused to reveal the identity of the supposed sender and will be sent to court soon,” Superintendent Amenyah pointed out.
