Parliament will be probing President Mahama’s assassination plot and demand an overhaul of the president's security detail following the conviction of a man who went to the President’s church with a weapon.
Charles Antwi was sentenced to ten years imprisonment within one hour by an Accra circuit court on Tuesday.
An Accra Circuit Court has found the 36-year-old man guilty of a second-degree felony.
“Every political personality is a target for any lunatic or disgruntled person...Somewhere along the line someone has been lax”, the Chairman of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee Fritz Baffour told Joy News.
He expressed shock that the man could visit the President's church for three weeks looking to commit crime. The arrest, prosecution, conviction and sentencing of Charles Antwi is a bizarre story.
Communications Minister Omane Boamah Sunday evening issued a statement announcing his arrest.
Police Prosecutors brought him before a circuit in Accra to seek remand whilst investigations continued. The Police asked for more time.
But before anyone could say jack, the judge Justice Justice Francis Obiri began interrogating the suspect.
Charles started singing, telling a puzzled court that he wanted to kill the president because of mismanagement of the country and in furtherance to his objective of becoming president.
He had been wanting to be president since the reign of the late president John Atta Mills but efforts to see the president failed.
He made similar jumbled statements, rambling on about his sanity.
