A woman who stood as surety for Musah Issah, one of the suspects being held for allegedly pouring acid on the late Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Adams Mahama, has withdrawn her service.
According to Lamisi Akpaana, she was traveling to Canada for a while and, therefore, could not stand as surety for Issah.
Issah is standing trial with Gregory Afoko over the death of Mahama.
Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Stephen Adjei, told the court that Saharatu Issah has, however, opted to replace Ms Akpaana.
ASP Adjei prayed the court that the background of Saharatu should be investigated and so she could be replaced with Lamisi.
ASP Adjei told the court, presided over by Mr Worlayo Kotoku, that the Attorney General was seriously studying the case docket to give the appropriate advice looking at the seriousness of the matter.
According to ASP Adjei, who held brief for Superintendent Francis Baah, the prosecution would not relent in its efforts, adding that, the case investigator had been tasked to liaise with the Officers at the A-G’s Department within a reasonable period to know the state of affairs in relation to the case.
He, therefore, prayed the court for an adjournment.
The court, therefore, discharged Lamisi and ordered investigations into the background of Saharatu so she could replace Lamisi.
Nana Asaa Banful, who held brief for Mr Ekow Ampah Korsah, counsel for Afoko, said her instructions were that if the bill of indictment was not ready, they should pray for an adjournment.
The court adjourned the matter to November 10.
