Concerned veterinary technicians in the Brong Ahafo Region have threatened to lay down their tools if anomalies related to their salaries are not resolved.
According to the group, their placement on the Single Spine Salary Structure has rather worsened their plight.
They noted that all efforts made to the appropriate quarters to correct the anomaly related to their salaries have not yielded any good results. Laying down their tools, according to them, is the only option left for them.
Mr Charlton Asher, the leader of the group, in an interview with The Finder, said they are working without any risk allowances.
According to Mr Asher, after placing them on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS), they did not get their market premium. Those who belong to the Ghana Veterinary Medical Association (GVMA) have their market premium.
"We support veterinary doctors on the field, but since 2010, we have been pushing to get our market premium, but to no avail. When you go to the abattoir, we veterinary technicians are the front liners; we also quarantine animals before they come or leave the country," Mr Asher noted.
He said their job is very risky because they are exposed to rabies, anthrax, among other diseases, in the course of discharging their duties, yet they have no allowances.
Apart from this, mobility is also a major problem because they have no means of getting to the hinterlands to work.
