A 19-year old boy is on admission at the Korle Bu teaching hospital after being struck by a car, an incident which occurred on Saturday on the Awoshie-Pokuase road.

The boy was knocked down by a Land Rover vehicle at Awoshie station while he was trying to cross the road with his bicycle.

According to an eyewitness, James Arhin, the two cars; a Land Rover Discovery 3 and a Jeep 4×4, were seen trying to overtake each other on the highway.

The boy, whose name was only given as Theo, was knocked down by the Land Rover when the driver tried to swerve an oncoming vehicle.

“The cars were on top-speed. When the Jeep overtook the Land Rover, the driver also tried to overtake him. Some people were pushing a taxi, so the Land Rover tried swerving the taxi but unfortunately, the young boy was crossing the road on his bicycle. He tried swerving him too, but he couldn’t so he ran into him before jumping on the pavement and crashing into an uncompleted building.”

The police have so far towed the vehicles and are currently investigating the incident.

A sticker on the Land Rover indicates the car may be owned by a lawyer and member of the Ghana Bar Association.

The boy has been transferred from the Mary-Lucy hospital at Awoshie to the Korle-Bu teaching hospital.
