The Executive Director of the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG) Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey has called on the director of the Information Services Department who has owned up to the error-ridden 59th Independence Day anniversary brochure to resign.
According to him, the apology being issued by Francis Kwarteng Arthur does not atone for the embarrassment he has caused the President and the country.
The Event Brochure, which outlined the programme of the 59th Independence Day Parade at the Black Starr Square as well as gave some historical facts about Ghana, named Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta as the ‘President of the Republic of Ghana’.
“Ghana is now recognized as having attained low-income status in the world,” part of the Event Brochure erroneously stated. The Brochure also went ahead to state that “Ghana is strategically positioned on the equator making her the centre of the of the globe. And like the sun, she radiates light to all parts of the world!”
Further, the Brochure, which has gone viral on social media due to its errors, omitted the letter ‘s’ in ‘Arms’ in the part which sought to explain what ‘The Coat of Arms’ stood for.
Speaking to Starr News on the development, the IDEG boss called on parliament to get involved in the matter and ensure that the appropriate sanctions are applied.
“He must resign, the apology is just not enough, he is purely incompetent, and Parliament must get involved and engage in a nonpartisan debate over it and get this matter fixed. These errors have caused embarrassment of unquantified proportion to the nation and the President,” he stated.
Meanwhile, workers of the ISD are also calling for the dismissal of their boss over the mishap.
