The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin has denied reports that the Central Regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs has been arrested in the UK.

Reports of Allotey Jacobs busted at the Heathrow Airport on Sunday by the UK National Crime Agency on suspected money laundering went viral on social media. But Jon Benjamin in responding to the report on Twitter said “the story is not true.” “I can confirm that the rumour about Mr. Jacobs is definitely not true…Mr. Allotey Jacobs transited Heathrow this morning without incident,” he added.

How The Story Unfolded On Social Media

Allotey Jacobs, the Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and right-hand man of President John Mahama was busted early this morning in a dramatic arrest on a British Airways Flight at Heathrow Airport by armed officers of the National Crime Agency, the UK's equivalent of the US's FBI.

He joins the long list of Government officials busted for drug-related money laundering activities which includes the First Lady, Lordina Mahama by UK officials.

The severity of the offences was indicated in the manner of his arrest, which bore similarities with how the notorious Nayeli Ametepe (Rubygate) was arrested: NCA officials boarded the BA Flight No. 078 from Accra which arrived in Heathrow this morning and arrested him right there on the plane for carrying cash in excess of £500,000.

Allotey Jacobs was escorted off the plane, his wife in tow, under heavy security and is still being held by the NCA.
