Former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, has expressed confidence in the President-elect of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, to overcome country’s economic challenges. In a statement, the chairman of the Kofi Annan Foundation and Nobel Laureate congratulated Nana Addo on his win in the presidential polls.
He also praised the incumbent, President John Dramani Mahama for conceding defeat. “Mr. Akufo-Addo will be taking over at a time of economic difficulties but he has the skills and experience to help the country face up to this challenge,” Mr. Annan said in a congratulatory message to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer.
Mr. Annan congratulated Nana Akufo-Addo on his electoral victory, and the people of Ghana for the way they handled a tense election saying, “I congratulate our new president-elect wholeheartedly, and I also commend President Mahama for graciously conceding defeat.” Nana Akufo-Addo was declared him the winner of Ghana’s seventh general elections making him the fifth president of Ghana’s fourth republic.
The NPP Flagbearer finally secured the presidency at the third time of asking beating President John Mahama who became the first incumbent to lose a presidential election since Ghana returned to a multi-party democracy in 1992. The Electoral Commission (EC) declared him the winner, with 53.85 percent of the votes, while President Mahama took 44.40 percent of the votes.
Annan also praised the people and authorities of Ghana for ensuring a peaceful campaign and for their calm while awaiting the announcement of the results by the Electoral Commission.
“The people of Ghana have proved worthy of our democratic tradition” he stated noting that national and international observers called the elections free and fair. Mr Annan further stated that at a time when democratic traditions are being challenged in some countries in Africa and beyond, a peaceful transition of political power in Ghana “makes me feel proud to be a Ghanaian.”
In his first speech on Friday after a declaration of the results by Mrs. Charlotte Osei, Nana Addo said the victory was one of the most humbling moments of his life and promised to not let Ghanaians down.
“There has never been a more humbling moment in my life and I thank you the good people of Ghana for this massive show of support and the confidence you have reposed in men and my party,” Nana Addo said. “I make this solemn pledge to you tonight and will not let you down. I will do all in my power to live up to your hope sand expectations.”

Mr Kofi Anan please, don't stand so low, and do not try to frame excuses for Nana because you are already foreseeing his failure. He says there is abundance oil in Ghana and that Ghana has billions coming in so he will have no escape rout. He must perform and should not come with any excuses. We are waiting for all his free, free, free things. Don't try to play smart Mr. Anan
Bro (Kojo Ndurll) ur grammar alone makes it obvious that.......

Another fooooooooooooo000lish fante man. Who did nothing in Ghana talking ***barred word***.
God has taken Ghana 🇬🇭 ones again through a successful change of government through the power of the thumb but not the barrel of the gun. Every well-meaning Ghanaian and those residence within our borders should justifiably welcome this as a good 😊 news. We have experienced this phenomenon since 1992, after every eight years. That is why those feeling disappointed should have hope that possibly their choice government could one ☝️ day come back to power, hence the need to overcome this loss and support the incoming government with prayers 🙏 and cooperation. For those of us who are visibly rejoicing and justifiably so should not forget that we have simply voted for humans but not angels 👼 so that we should be modest in our celebration 🎉, bearing in mind that Ghana 🇬🇭 has been this road before. It is my prayer that, the God of all the earth 🌏 will guide the outgoing President to continue to give his best and commission even more infrastructure developments in the coming days with joy and glee. I want to see him mingle with Ghanaians and laugh 😂 off the tension of the last few months. I pray for the President-Elect, that he will pause now and allow this victory and the expectations of Ghanaians and its implications to settle well in his heart before he starts to make very major decisions. I pray that Ghana 🇬🇭 shall become the beacon of Africa and the world 🌎. I pray for economic Prosperity for all Ghanaians. I pray for a Ghana that supports whoever is in power devoid of party colours. I pray for a Ghana 🇬🇭 where the word of God reigns and thrives. May God continue to bless our home land Ghana and make us great and strong 💪. Above all, Jesus is still on the throne. He hasn't moved since 1992, he has remained on his throne since Kwame Nkrumah's era. Put your trust in Him. Still👍 Saving Jesus Campaigns!
Folks, you have every right to feel sad because your guy lost. It is natural. We have all been through similar situations before. One caution however, is to tone down the insults. It is not a matured way to react. Please!!!!
Ah Kojo, why heap these insults on us, the Fantes? We are very sophisticated and mature in our choices, especially when selecting a presidential material. Sorry, your preferred candidate was given the chance to prove himself. He blew it! He demonstrated, over the 4yr period, incompetence, corruption, tribalism and kleptomania. Of course, Fantes know better than that. We saw hope in Nana, we gave him our mandate! We believe he will deliver the goods! Mahama is hitory!
Times are hard but.......ex gratias would be paid.....bungalows would be refurbished and renovated at exorbitant sums and ofcos by cronies.......V8 vehicle's would be bought for new appointees and law makers.......for this V8s the foreigners who own the car dealerships get the profits.....and those who help them get the contracts to supply also get a nice cut........i don't believe there is no money in ghana......And MAY GOD BLESS PRESIDENT MAHAMA.......He embarked upon a record massive infrastructure.....UNFORTUNATELY 54percent of Ghanaians say they want jobs and the other promises.......NO EXCUSES.......The promises has to be fulfilled.......And continuing infrastructure started by mahama would not be bad......because hospitals when built would definitely employ.......the unemployed nurse graduate.......etc.....NOW THE BALL IS IN YOUR COURT........MR. ANNAN YOU HAVE MY BIGGEST RESPECT.......However making excuses for non performance is NO NO......
Mr kofi we are not ready for any excuses this time around ooooo he said he capable and we give him the mandate. So we want solutions thanks .
@Kojo, it seems you have still not learnt your lessons after your loose. You are still engaged in tribal politics. Ghanaian electorate are now matured and will not fall for such. It is time you grow up.
