The Electoral Commission has made a u-turn with a denial that its systems were hacked during the critical period of election results transmission.
Deputy Director of Communication Yusif Ayuba said while the systems suffered some breakdown it could not have been hacked into.
He was speaking to Joy News, Monday, days after the EC chair Charlotte Osei declared opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo as president-elect.
Before her declaration though the country was left on tenterhooks as the EC went completely silent 12 hours after elections with no confirmed or provisional results.
Even when the two leading political parties were claiming victories from results of the same election, the EC was still quiet.
It was the NDC that first issued a statement claiming to be in a commanding lead and assured its supporters to remain calm.
The NPP reacted with a press conference claiming to be victors and asking the incumbent president to concede.
The NDC returned with another press conference berating the NPP for daring to ask the president to concede.
Hours after that tensed drama from the political parties, the EC chair Charlotte Osei broke her silence, not with figures from the elections but with an excuse that their systems had been compromised for which reason she could not continue with the electronic transmission of the results.
She did not explain what may have caused the compromise, except to add, they would rather rely on the manual process of results transmission.
However, the same Commission on its twitter page condemned what it said were attempted attack on the EC website.
The tweet formed the basis for many stories to be done by local and international websites.
Days after the dust has settled on the elections, the Deputy Communications director said there was no attempted hack of the EC website.
"We had challenges in transmission. I wouldn't say it was a hacking. I don't think it was an official statement from the EC that our systems had been hacked," he said.

Charlotte Osei should step down; she compromised her integrity. If I were Charlotte, I would resign before Nana is sworn in as Mr. President.
The website was not hack per say. Just a lot of traffic was directed to the site. Its termed DOS attack, Denial Of Service Attack. I may be a form of hacking. Meaning Ec dont have strong servers. thats all. If they were really hacked , i bet u everthing on the site will be off till now.
SHAMEFUL EC! THEY WANTED TO RIG FOR NDC BUT NPP WERE SMARTER THIS TIME. NDC ALL THESE WHILE SLEPT IN THEIR DREAMS THAT NPP WAS DISORGANIZED. THEIR PAID MOLES WERE REMOVED BUT NDC THOUGHT THAT THEY CAN WIN ON THOSE LIES. SHAME EC/NDC
I support Ace Ankomahs suggestion that the EC should be audited. This will enable the various stakeholders the opportunity to know where the shortcomings are. If this exercise is carried out after every election it will bring sanity and boost the credibility of the EC.
When EC received faxed results from constituencies and compared to the transmitted one, there were discrepancies. The reason is because the transmitted result were doctored by NDC hired STL to the advantage of the former. But the real results are what were obtained from the Constituencies so, EC was alarmed. Furthermore, NPP had already called the results and thus put EC in too tight a position to accept the 'STL' results. Finally EC has to drop the 'STL' results and use the Constituency ones. Also Charlotte had private communications with Mahama, advising him to concede defeat as the results were overwhelmingly in favor of NPP. Mahama was shocked as to why STL failed him this time around. STL doctored 2012 elections in favor of NDC.
The EC MUST BE INVESTIGATED TO FIND THE TRUTH IN THIS CASE WHICH BROUGHT GHANA TO A NEAR CRISIS SITUATION. WHY DID THE PRO SAY THAT THERE WERE OVER VOTING IN SOME AREAS ESPECIALLY THE ASHANTI REGION THEN THE EC CHAIR NOT MENTIONING IT.THE EC CHAIRPERSON MUST TELL THE TRUTH TO GHANAIANS BECAUSE HER CREDIBILITY IS ON THE LOW AS FAR AS THESE CASES ARE CONCERNED.
That's exactly what happens when there is devine intervention. There was utter confusion and befuddlement in the camp of the EC-NDC alliance.
As if i knew it. I told a friend the system was not hacked but it failed. The mock try they did before the election was not a drill mock. Mock exercise is not an hour or a day thing.
YOU ARE REAL DEVILS. WANTED TO RIG AT ALL COST ? GOD PUNISH YOU. REMOVE YOUR OCCULT SYMBOL AND DISAPPEAR . GOD PUNISH YOU EC. EVIL SOULS.
It means the EC is not trustworthy and the should find trusted people to handle such serious positions.they need to apologize to Ghanaians for what they did.
