NPP Suffering From Policy Credibility - Haruna Iddrisu

Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu is accusing the barely one month old Nana Akufo-Addo government of suffering from policy credibility.

Mr Iddrisu said the NPP cannot promise one thing in opposition and do the opposite after winning power.

He was speaking on Joy FM Monday on the performance of six ministerial appointees vetted so far by the Parliament's Appointment Committee.

According to him, the NPP has signed or is seeking to sign an international economic transaction with a company called Mckenzie which will see the company run affairs in the first 100 days of the NPP administration.

This, the Tamale South MP said is curious given the fact that the NPP had, time without number trumpeted to Ghanaians about its competence and ability to bring the economy back on track.

He said the minority will thoroughly scrutinize the arrangement when it comes to Parliament.

"The Minister of Finance [designate] is able to tell the Ghanaian public and Parliament that within 100 days the NPP which had parroted its competence is now relying on borrowed and hired competence," he said.

"If you have a McKenzie contract already working for the government or seeking to work for Ghana within the 100 days. So where are their own competence? What will McKenzie be doing?" he asked

Haruna Iddrisu also chastised the government, accusing it of making a u-turn on the promise to reduce taxes when it wins power.

The NPP had, throughout the campaign period, queried what it says were "nuisance taxes" imposed by the Mahama led government.

Key amongst those taxes were Financial Service tax, Energy Sector Levy, Import levy etc.

Haruna Iddrisu reported the Finance Minister designate as saying those taxes will not be reviewed.

"Now they are beginning to admit that for instance when they said they will review taxes, the Energy Sector levy... they have maintained a policy position  that it will not be revised. Before the elections what was their position on this particular matter?

He said the NPP's condemnation of the Mahama led government on the country's debt profile was unfortunate because they failed to acknowledged that the debt comes with assets include massive infrastructural development.

"Now they are not even able to share with us how they intend to finance the fiscal deficit contrary to the promise that within 100 days contractors would have been paid.

Haruna Iddrisu said those looking towards the glory days under the Akufo-Aled governemtn would have been disappointed thus far.
