Ghana’s first lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, on Wednesday commemorative the International Women’s Day with a meeting of more than 200 influential women in their chosen fields to galvanize support towards achieving gender parity.
Special guests at the meeting were Samira Bawumia who is the wife of the vice president, former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Managing Director of Airtel Ghana, Lucy Quist, and CEO of Salt and Light Ministries, Rev Joyce Aryee among others.
Participants included actresses, musicians, queen mothers, journalists and market women among other women. Addressing a group of women at special ceremony to commemorate International Women’s Day, Mrs Akufo-Addo said it was important for the nation to recognise women whose contributions got “us closer to gender parity”.
