A policeman stationed at the Anyaa police station in Accra, Gabriel Tabiri, went berserk Tuesday by physically assaulting a taxi driver for allegedly jumping red traffic light.
The cab driver Kwabena Danso, who is traumatized, was disgraced in the open by the peacemaker with service number 36832. The officer allegedly accosted him at a Fuel Station after allegedly jumping the light and ended up tearing apart his clothing.
“Frequent users of that Anyaa stretch of the highway know that particular traffic light is faulty. It is usually on amber or switches to red and within a blink of an eye it turns green then amber then red,” Danso explained to Starrfmonline.com and has been corroborated by drivers who use that road often.
“I was surprised the police officer came all the way to the filling station and said I was under arrest. I explained to him that the light doesn’t work and it’s a fact and even pointed it to him, but he insisted I have flouted traffic regulations.
“He kept pressing that we should go to the police station and I said he should sit in my car so we go together. However, he refused on the basis that there was someone already in the car. But I told him I can’t walk to the station when there is a vehicle which could make our journey faster and easier.
“This resulted in an altercation and suddenly he held my shirt and began pulling and squeezing me by the neck. I restrained myself because of his uniform, but he went beyond his boundaries when I realised my dress was torn in the process. I was expecting him to give me some level of respect when it was left with my boxer shorts on, but he didn’t and kept stretching that too until I was stark naked in public,” Danso narrated his ordeal.
According to the civilian, “when I realised I was being disgraced, I decided to defend myself and that resulted in a physical brawl before I could gain my freedom. It took the intervention of the boys around to free me from his grips.”
Danso had to go to a nearby shop to get a new attire to cover his nakedness. He said he is currently suffering some pains on his forehead, chest and neck after struggling with the police officer. The law enforcement agent left the scene and never pursued the case again, Danso added.
He has since reported the case to the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards (PIPS) Directorate.

The police officer is he not a human being? is that how he was trained to carried out his job? where in earth have you heard any police officer misbehaving this way? the officer does not know his job description, He is lucky that the driver give him due respect, next time he should try that on any other person he will regret even being a police officer. A times you guys should be sincere if it were you what will you do.
Hmmmm lets see what happens if he will be punish
I once witnessed similar incidents at Kasoa so i had to intervene for the poor driver but one police guy told me he can speak and write english so he isn't afraid of anybody.. and also i dont know who got them into the police service.. i was totally ashamed and disappointed
This particular policeman's attitude towards motorists is very unprofessional. I always pick a vehicle from the Anyaa Station to Pokuasi. He has the penchant for accosting drivers who to my estimation have not committed any offence and end up harrasing them. Several instances abound. This case should not end just like. Some of us will follow with keen interest.
What do u mean by if he had obeyed, call a spade by its name and stop the hypocrisy. The policeman went above his duties and must be suspended to know some sense,i think he went to police through the back door so he think he can misbehave. Justice must be serve and serve right
Must you break the law to enforce the law? This is barbaric. Police is there to serve the people not to molest them. It is time the police service knows its limit. This is crazy.
This Gabby guy might have been under the influence of some weed or liquid. You need to change your name. The Gabriel we know was an angel.
Are you sure the man called a policemen is a professional police office? No I donot think so .Not even the service number will convince me of his status.
If you had obeyed all this wouldn't have happened to you. do before you complain
This complete DISGRACE to the Ghana police ; this Gaberiel Tabiri should be SACKED or SUSPENDED by the GHana POlice ;how could behave like a monkey in the jungle ;Ghana is not a banana state ; how was such irresponsible full employed as a policeman ; the IGP should summon this ***barred word*** and read him the riot act NOW !!!!!!
