The principal streets of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region are dead silent and empty as Asanteman begins the final funeral rites of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s late mother.
On a normal day, major streets in Adum, Kejetia, Asafo and others are seen buzzing with lots of commercial activities. However, on Monday, 4 December, the usually busy areas in Kumasi were virtually ghost towns.
The final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who died a year ago, started 1 December 2017.
The programme started with about 1,500 fetish priests and their followers converging on the Manhyia Palace.
The Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service said in a statement that all SHS students should not go to school on December 4 and December 8.
“We wish to inform residents in Kumasi Metro, Asokore Mampong Municipal and the general public that activities being held for the final funeral rites of the late queen mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II demand that Basic schools within these areas be closed down on Monday, December 4, 2017.”
“On Friday, December 8, schools will close at 12 noon to enable students to reach home on time. Day students in the Senior High schools are also to stay home within these two days,” the statement added.

master, you lack common s3ns3 and need free shs to get more knowledge so enroll at any JHS so that u can enjoy the free shs next year. Asantes respects their culture a lot so if the banks cant respect our culture they have to move out and leave our rural banks alone cos they know the tradition and will abide it. The asantehene says all shops can operate on tuesday and anyone who enters ur shop should be reported to the police. Even the ga's who band druming for a whole month respects that which is even done anually and their men will be entering churches to pick drums but if given money they stop and go. Wo kum Apem a apem b3ba so take ur hate elsewhere cos asntes are united always
Ilike the Asante's for one thing, they respect their culture and traditions,a big city like kumasi is dead silent because of the funeral of their queenmother, take or leave it , the Asantes have respect for their time tested traditional institutions, other traditional areas should learn from this enviable traditions, fighting over nothing will not get us anywhere.
Please have you taken your drugs today..? When you finish sleep a little bit. How much do you have at the bank there..? Why don't you sue yourself?? HAAHAHAHHAHAHA. For your information, There is NO Ghana anywhere, the Asante/Akan Kingdom is Ghana. The Kingdom existed before the name Ghana and the Constitution/Laws. Go and enjoy FREE SHS...you need more history lessons. #WebHunter
@nenyi abeiku let me tell you that your HATE ASANTE syndrome will never work. We're called Wokum apem a apem beba.
Which of the laws in Ghana was used or has been used EVER to beat drums and make noise in Ga Mashe during the annual Homowo related 'ban on drumming and nose making'in those areas; even to the extent of preventing other religious bodies from s=exercising their religions freely within those periods? How many time in your lifetime has the Asantehemaa's funeral been held? It will do all of you a great good if you stop the HATE ASANTE syndrome and appreciate them for who they are; a united people who cherish their traditions. After all, Asante Kingdom is not the same as the Ashanti Region. Aaba!
Asante Is a united kingdom. You can't fight against them and survive. You sue and you relocate from the kingdom. They are the most powerful group in ghana. Forget the hate
... this is outrageous this is unfair. someone should sue the banks and other serivce providers, especially for closing down when people want to do business Someone should sue so we test the laws of Ghana, not that of Asante
