Government Implements Policies In The Health Sector

Mr Kingsley Aboagye-Gyedu, the Deputy Minister for Health, on Thursday disclosed that government has implemented policies in the health sector to provide basic quality and affordable health care services across the country.

He said the health policies would address some of the challenges in the sector as well as improve the performance of the health personnel to deliver good services to the public.

Mr Aboagye-Gyedu disclosed this during the 16th annual general conference of the Ghana Physicians Assistants Association (GPAA) in Tamale.

The conference was on a theme “Primary Health Care, a Vehicle for Attainment of Universal Health Coverage: A call to strengthen the Primary Health Care Level”.

The event was to discuss the challenges to the practice of GPAA and collectively decide on strategies to help resolve or mitigate the challenges as a group.

Mr Aboagy-Gyedu indicated that government instituted a pro poor social intervention in the form of National Health Insurance Scheme in order to make health care financially accessible to all and to promote the attainment of universal health coverage across the country.

According to him, government was still working at strengthening the attainment of universal health coverage in the country.

Dr Anthony Nsiah –Asare, the Director General of Ghana Health Service, called on all stakeholders to work closely with the government to resolve the long standing issues of poor conditions of service for health care professionals, which was leading to industrial actions by the GPAA.

He urged the Association to continue to play its part in the attainment of universal Health coverage for all citizens if the county through an enhanced, well-structured and resourced primary health care system.
