The Adenta-Madina road footbridges project awarded to six contractors are at various levels of development.

While some of the footbridges have concrete cast, others are still undergoing excavation.

At the ‘Firestone’ and ‘Zongo Junction’ footbridges, major developments are visible to passers-by as some of the pillars have been mounted with concrete cast.

Meanwhile, those at Redco, Ritz Junction, SDA, and West African Secondary School (WASS) are still under excavation.

A visit by the Ghana News Agency indicated that the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate patrol teams were at post assisting pedestrians crossing the road.

On Thursday, November 8, last year, a taxi cab knocked down a female student of WASS on the Adentan-Madina Highway, killing her instantly.

The situation led some residents to block the highway and burnt car tyres to prevent vehicular movement as a way of expressing their anger at the frequent accidents and casualties due to lack of footbridges.

They also demanded for the completion of the footbridges.

An Inter-Ministerial Committee on Roads and Highways, Transport and Interior announced that work would commence in a week’s time.

Later, officials of the Ghana Highway Authority took six contractors to the site in readiness to begin work on the uncompleted footbridges after receiving the architectural drawings towards the start of work.
