Alavanyo Is Calm And Under Control - Police

Mr Francis Ebenezer Doku, Volta Regional Police Commander said calm has returned to Alavanyo-Dzogbefeme where a shoot-out incident between some military men and the youth of the area resulted in the death of two persons on Sunday.

“The situation is calm, but we are on high alert to respond to any untoward happenings,” he told the media at a News briefing in Ho after fresh shootings were recorded on Monday, leading to the death of a 70-year old man with a military officer sustaining a gunshot injury.

The Regional Commander said a high powered delegation from the Regional Security Council was dispatched to the area on Monday alongside a military reinforcement.

He said the security officers did not go to the community in combat mood and that the attack from the community youth led to the crossfire.

Mr Doku said the youth after cutting electricity supply to the community and attacking the security personnel, vandalised police and military vehicles.

He appealed to the chiefs and the people to exercise restraint and work with the police to normalise social activities in the farming community.

The Commander debunked rumours that the police were in the community to arrest individuals engaged in the cultivation of Indian Hemp and said the team upon a tip off went there to pick illegal arms stockpiled in the area.
