Six students died on the spot on Wednesday (11 May) in Ankaase, a village in the Krachi West Municipality of the Oti Region, when a private driver rammed into them, the police have confirmed.
Another student, who survived is currently in a critical condition at a health centre, the Krachie West municipal chief executive officer Emmanuel Kajal Jalula told Asaase News.
He said the students were returning from school when the accident occurred.
“They were half way home when the incident happened,” Jalula said.
According to him, the driver, who was in the town to prepare for his brother’s funeral was on his way to the morgue when his car crashed into the children.
The police have taken over the case and have arrested the driver to help in investigations.
