'Galamseyers' have burnt down 12 vehicles including an Ambulance belonging to the Golden Star Resources, a mining site at Wassa Benso in the Western Region following disturbances between members of the community and the mining company.
Gerald Osei Boakye, Senior Manager, Group Corporate Affairs at Golden Star Resources confirmed the incident to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'kokrokoo' programme.
" . . It happened at our Benso operations . . . they have burnt twelve(12) of our vehicles includng excavators and an ambulance used in serving the community . . . they've destroyed some of our offices and belongings of our Contractors . . ." he said.
The disturbances at the mining site had resulted in the death of one person, injured four others, and some properties belonging to the company were also destroyed, the police said on Thursday.
Police have since beefed up security in Wassa Benso and its environs.
