Mr Dan Botwe, the Member of Parliament for Okere, on Thursday pledged to promote tourism in the area in order to generate revenue to support development.

He said Okere area abounds in tourist attractions that were almost unknown including Asenema, Adakasu, Monu, Akyeremanten and Abiriw waterfalls.

Other tourist attractions are the Abonso slave market, the Okomfo Anokye Shrine and Oware stone both at Awukugua, the umbrella stone and the ancient cave at Akyeremanten.

Mr Botwe said if all those sites were developed, a lot of revenue could be generated from them to augment financial aid from the already known sources.

He said this at a homecoming and mini durbar in honour of Miss Priscilla Asare, the 2011 Miss Tourism Ghana at Adukrom Akuapem.
Mr Botwe appealed to Miss Asare to use her position to help promote the tourism potentials in the area so as to attract investment.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr James Agyenim- Boateng, commended Miss Asare for working hard to emerge winner of the pageant this year and commended the chiefs and people of Adukrom for honouring Miss Asare on her achievement.

Mr Agyenim -Boateng said tourism was the fastest growing sector worldwide and is the fourth foreign exchange earner for the country and assured Miss Asare that the ministry and its sector agencies were ready to assist her in all areas of her endeavours.

Mr Agyenim- Boateng said Ghana had been identified as one of the top 10 tourist destinations in 2012 and appealed to chiefs, opinion, leaders, and the people of Akuapem to position themselves well to benefit from the influx of tourists next year.

Miss Asare expressed her appreciation to the chiefs and people of Adukrom for organizing the durbar in her honour and pledged to use her new position to promote tourism which is her main business.
The chief of Adukrom, Nana Otutu Konor III, commended Miss Asare for bringing honour to the people of Adukrom and Akuapem in general.
