Counsel for the petitioners in the ongoing Supreme Court trial, Lawyer Philip Addison, was advised by witness for the second respondent, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan, to question him on the entirety of the voters’ registers and not extracts of it.

In the course of cross examining Dr. Afari Gyan, Lawyer Addison sort to prove to the court that the final register, record persons with double registration and the evidence was far different from the message the EC chair has been claiming in court.

For this reason, he handed over an extract purported to be that of the Adaklu Constituency to Dr. Afari Gyan for detection.

Although Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan confirmed the extract given to him was that of the Adaklu Constituency, he could not tell whether the document was taken out of the national register.

He disclosed that he would have thought that if counsel for the petitioners had wanted to pinpoint areas where double registration took place, they would have come to court with the entire register.

He also scoffed at the document he was holding, explaining that the EC doesn’t present registers in the form Lawyer Addison exhibited it.

His lawyer also objected to the extract which was handed over to his client, stating that they don’t know the origination of the purported document which was not in even in evidence.

Counsel for the second respondent, Lawyer Quashie Idun, faulted counsel for the petitioners for producing extracts without seeking the consent of the EC.

He registered that nobody had the authority to produce extracts of the voters’ register if the EC had no given them the go ahead.

“No extracts or copies of this register, should be made without the permission in writing of the Electoral Commission of Ghana,” he said.
