CPA-UK To Build The Capacity Of Women Parliamentarians In Ghana

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK Branch (CPA UK) in partnership with the British High Commission Accra will between the 21st and 22nd of March 2014 organise a seminar aimed at building the capacity of women Members of Parliament in Ghana.

This seminar is a follow up to the seminar CPA UK ran at Westminster, UK in April 2013 for women Members of Parliament from African countries within the Commonwealth which included 8 MPs from Ghana.

The aim and objectives of this seminar is to enhance the professional development of women parliamentarians in Ghana and to strengthen the women�s parliamentary caucus.

The programme will explore:

i.how women�s participation in politics may be further developed,

ii.how to enhance the work and effectiveness of woman parliamentarians within and without Parliament,

iii.how to enhance the understanding and knowledge of women parliamentarians on poverty reduction issues of particular concern for women.

Some of the line-up of speakers and facilitators will include;

�Dame Angela Watkinson, Member of Parliament for Hornchurch and Upminster, UK, Conservative

�Sarah Teather, Member of Parliament for Brent Central, UK, Liberal Democrat

�Alison McGovern, Member of Parliament for Wirral South, UK, Labour

�Kate Faragher, Personal Communications Consultant, UK
The seminar will be hosted in the Speaker�s Conference Room in Parliament from Friday 21st March 2014 to Saturday 22nd March 2014.
