The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza North is calling for increased security at the premises of Ghana's legislature after it was besieged by irate protestors who were displaced following a demolition exercise by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA)
According to Maj. Rtd. Derrick Yaw Oduro, the Minority's deputy ranking member of Defense and Interior, 'if a whole parliament we don’t have adequate security, it is very bad and dangerous, we need to take immediate action.'
The MP for expressed worry about how close the protestors from Old Fadama had come to the premises of the parliament, a place supposed to be high on security. "You can see that the Coat of Arms in front of parliament, some of the lightning systems on the street were all destroyed and some flower pots were broken," he stated.
He was also concerned about the fact that they were heading towards the Job 600 project until they were repelled by a reinforced police force. The security for parliament must be beefed up, it is not up to required strength, he added.
He revealed that the Police detail at parliament had requested 32 additional officers to their current contingent some of whom he said were on other duty outside of parliament.
