The refusal of the NPP MP for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, P C Ofori’s to appear before a scheduled Disciplinary Committee session to clarity the bribery allegations he made against NPP MPs clearly indicate he has no evidence or proof that such an activity took place; thereby confirming he lied to Ghanaians about the said allegation.
PC Ofori has brought the name of the Party and the minority in Parliament into disrepute having failed on two occasions to appear before the Disciplinary Committee to make his case clearer and defend his persistent allegation that members of the minority received bribes to sign of the Ghana Telecom/Vodafone deal in 2008.
PC has not only told lies with the intent to damage the reputation of his colleagues, he has miserly failed to provide evidence to support his claims that some NPP MP’s are corrupt.
I am therefore by this statement calling on the National Executive Committee of the NPP to sack P C Ofori from the Party for his actions and recent comments about our Party. He has deliberately set out a plan to ruin the Party and destabilise our focus.
PC Ofori has violated some provisions of our constitution and should not be allowed to continue with his membership of the Party.
Article 3 D of our constitution absolutely makes it clear the duties of a member as follows:
1. A Member shall protect the good name of the Party;
2. A Member shall protect the unity of the Party;
3. A Member shall be loyal and truthful to the Party;
4. A Member shall abide by and publicly uphold the decisions of the Party.
PC Ofori has failed to comply with the provisions above and has no business continuing to hold himself as a member of the very institution he has denigrated and hated. He must therefore be expelled from the Party per article 3 G (1) which states as follows:
A member may be expelled from the Party on grounds of misconduct in accordance with the Provisions of this constitution, and upon such expulsion cease to be a Member.
PC Appiah Ofori’s continues membership of the NPP is seriously undermining the usefulness of the Provisions under article 3 D and G; as he has numerously maligned our Party in its totality and the minority in particular in his selfish desire to gain popularity on his so called anti-corruption campaign.
It is this regard that I call for his immediate expulsion from the Party to serve as a deterrent to the general membership of the Party to conduct themselves properly and to protect and promote the good name of the Party at all times.
NPP Member, Tamale Central
