The Spokesperson for the former President Jerry John Rawlings, Mr. Kofi Adams has described as a lie the claim by Mr. Kwame Pianim, an economist, that he had seen President reject two brown envelops a situation that did not happen during the administration of both Presidents Rawlings and Kufuor.
Mr. Pianim therefore contends that President Mills was incorruptible. However Mr. Adams said I dont think that really happened because knowing the kind of person President Mills is, he will make the appropriate institution investigate whoever that made that attempt of bribery. Mr. Pianim was quoted by sections of the media as saying, we have a President that at least I will put my hand in the fire for that he will not steal from the people.
I have seen him on two occasions give envelops back and I didnt see it happen under John the first or John the second but at least we are progressing and we have a president whom I think will not steal from the people. The statement has generated a lot of interesting comments and debates by people from all the political divides, since its pronouncements. Speaking in an interview on Peace FMs mid-day news yesterday, the Spokesperson of Mr. Rawlings said it would be very much unfortunate if this has really happened and the President is keeping mute about it. Let the President himself come out and state whether this thing really happened or not then we can take it from there, he added. Asked if the ex-President took bribes or not, Mr. Kofi Adams said he did not think anybody would dare to do such a thing knowing very well how Rawlings is as personality.
It will take the devils incarnate to have the confidence to take a bribe to Mr. Rawlings, he emphasized. He further stated that the former President was not a corrupt person and would never accept bribe of any sort from whomever.
