THE ISSUE of the infamous Yutong Bus popped up at the NDC special delegates congress held over the weekend at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

Ironically, President Mills, who has been referred to as the Yutong bus driver, told NDC delegates to keep an eye on the Yutong bus driver in order to take them safely back to their various destinations.

The president was giving his victory speech at the climax of the NDCs three-day special delegates congress held in Sunyani, where he received an overwhelming endorsement by the over 3000 delegates.

He succeeded in silencing the wife of the party founder, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, in the two-horse race. I prayed for Gods travelling mercies for every one of you. Please keep an eye on the Yutong bus drivers and lets make sure that they carry you safely home, he told the delegates.

He stressed, If they [Yutong drivers] appear to be dozing, let them park and take a rest and continue with the journey to take you safely to your destinations, contrary to the prescription of Vice President John Mahama that if the Yutong bus driver was feeling sleepy, he should be given coffee to revive him.

During the heat of the campaign to unseat him, the Konadu camp described President Mills as a Yutong driver who was not fit to drive the bus safely to its destination. His internal opponents said he was driving the NDC into a political ditch and therefore called for the need to change him so as to save the party from losing power in 2012.

However, he managed to survive attempts to unseat him by wining a landslide victory over the wife of the party founder.

Interestingly, delegates from all the 230 constituencies across the country arrived in Sunyani on Yutong buses which have become so popular in Ghana due to some bizarre news surrounding them.

In recent times, most road accidents that occur in the country involve these Yutong buses which have also come under attacks of highway robbers.

The mentioning of Yutong bus by the president threw the entire stadium into an uncontrollable laughter. It took the president a while to be able to continue with what also turned out to be a departure speech.
