Information gathered by Daily Guide on Monday revealed that the sudden resignation by Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Rev. Veronica Essuman Nelson last Friday was allegedly as a result of an appeal by President Mills.

A source said the president upon seeing the abysmal performance of the MCE, decided to persuade her to step down from her position in order to save face and help the party win the 2012 general elections in the area.

Daily Guide gathered that complaints of gross disrespect shown by the MCE to some traditional leaders, party executives and workers of the KEEA Assembly as well as people in the community informed President Mills’ decision to relieve her of her post.

The source noted further that the president did not want the MCE to feel ashamed when he sacked her hence the need for the presidency to send her a letter signed by President Mills through the central regional minister asking her to resign honorably.

The source added that Rev. Essuman Nelson then complied with the directive of the President. She is said to have quickly submitted her resignation letter to the coordinating director of the assembly and has since been advised to pack out by the end of August.

Some KEEA workers who spoke to Daily Guide on condition of anonymity expressed happiness over the resignation and appealed to President Mills to appoint an MCE who is down-to-earth to help develop the municipality.

“We are most grateful to the president for what he has done for us and will advise him to appoint someone who is competent, has respect for humanity as well as vision to transform KEEA Municipality.”

They said they have not known peace since Rev. Essuman Nelson assumed office as MCE adding that she did not have any respect for any of them, young or old.

In an interview with some NDC sympathizers in Elmina, they also expressed appreciation to President Mills and promised that once the disrespectful MCE who claims she resigned on her own accord has been removed, they will work hard to ensure the NDC retains the KEEA parliamentary seat.

According to them, due to the MCE’s divide and rule tactics she has created factions in the party, adding that she is also not on good terms with the MP for the area, Dr Joseph Samuel Annan.

It will be recalled that DAILY GUIDE published a story with the headline “Sack KEEA MCE” in which a group calling itself the ‘Concerned NDC group of KEEA’ held a press conference to demand her removal as MCE of the area.

In a press release signed by the leader of the group, Kwesi Thompson, the group said the MCE has no respect for constituency party executives and traditional leaders while her attitude had created factions in the party. Mr. Thompson consequently gave the president a one month ultimatum to respond to their call or risk losing the 2012 elections.

Though the deadline for the ultimatum has long elapsed, Mr. Thompson was glad the president had listened to their plea and promised the constituency executives’ commitment to work hard to win the KEEA seat for the NDC.

The paper gathered that the people of KEEA are preparing vigorously to stage a peaceful demonstration dubbed “All Inclusive Demo,” to thank President Mills for responding to their cry.
